October 21, 1937 - April 5, 2017
William T. Putnam III, 79, of Greenbrier, passed away on April 5, 2017. Bill was born October 21, 1937 to William T. Putnam Jr. and Lucille Williams Putnam in Jacksonville, Florida. Bill moved his family to the Greenbrier area in 1972 where they melded right into the community. Bill's dream was to build his own home which he did near Springhill. Bill was an electrician by trade. During those early years, many people were in need of 220 wiring for their homes so they could enjoy the modern conveniences of an electric stove, an air conditioner, or a clothes dryer. Bill was their man. Bill was a member of Greenbrier First United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and served as a trustee for many years. He was a member of the building committee in 1979 when the new church was built at its present site. He was a long time member of the Methodist's Men's Club. He was a charter member of the Greenbrier Optimist Club and was a member of the Greenbrier Lion's Club. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Kearsarge and was very patriotic. As a member of the Lion's Club, he placed flags in people's yards and businesses for special holidays each year until his health no longer allowed him to perform that duty. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in law Douglas Pharr and sister-in -law Peggy Easterling. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years Carol Cook Putnam, his sister Barbara Sanders and Phillip of Houston, Texas, his daughter's Melinda James and Terry of Greenbrier, Amanda Terrice and Anthony of Fort Worth, Texas, his son Theodore (Ted) Putnam and Judith of Greenbrier, 5 grandchildren Katherine Hudson, Tyler Hudson, Alana Garrett, Joshua Terrice, and Emily Putnam, and four great- grandchildren, Jace Hudson, Christopher Cooper, William Cooper, and Kyle Cooper. Bills service will be held Saturday April 8, 2017 at 2pm at Greenbrier First United Methodist Church with a visitation from 1-2pm. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Greenbrier First United Methodist Church building fund.
